[NEWS] GHANA’S DVLA IS TRANSITION THE VEHICLES NUMBER PLATES

Ghana's DVLA is transitioning from a, year-based, two-letter region code format (e.g., GR 1234-25) to a new, “no-year” system starting in 2026. The new plates will feature RFID technology, zonal codes (e.g., AD for Adenta) instead of years, and will be linked to the owner's Ghana Card.

Evolution of Ghana Number Plates:
Pre-2026 (Current/Old): Displays the region code, a unique four-digit number, and the year of registration (e.g., GR 1234-25 for Greater Accra, 2025).
2026 Onwards (New - Proposed):
No Year Display: The registration year is removed to prevent devaluation of older cars.
Zonal Codes: Specific area codes (e.g., AD for Adenta, TM for Tema) replace the year, indicating exactly where the car was registered.
Smart Technology: Embedded RFID chips for digital identification, linking vehicles to the owner's Ghana Card.
Design Changes: Includes the Ghana map in the middle, a space for the renewal sticker, and a unique identification number.
